Mike Brown

Mike Brown is in his fifth season as head coach of the Cathedral Prep boys’ cross country team. During his tenure, the Ramblers have captured one Region 6 team title and were runners-up four times. He has coached 11 All-Region runners, two Region Runner-of-the-Year honorees, two All-District runners, one District 10 champion, and one state medalist. In 2022 he guided Luke Brown '23 to a memorable season, highlighted by victories at the prestigious Manhattan Invitational in New York City as well as the District 10 AA Championship.  During track & field season, Brown is an assistant coach working with Prep’s long sprint and middle distance runners. 

Brown began his coaching career at his alma mater, Dartmouth College, where he served as an assistant track and cross country coach under hall of fame head coach Vin Lananna. Brown coached cross country at the Erie Diocesan grade school level from 2012-2024. He also helped found the Erie Diocesan track & field program and serves as meet director for the Erie Diocesan championship. 

As a high school track & field athlete in Massachusetts, Brown was a six-time state champion in the long sprint and middle distance events/relays and guided his team to an overall state title. Collegiately, he was a multi-time conference individual event and relay medalist. He was elected team captain as a senior and was named to the NCAA Division I All-American team as a member of Dartmouth’s 4x800m relay.

Brown earned his Bachelor of Arts in History from Dartmouth College, an M.B.A. from the University of Texas-Austin, and his Ph.D. in Business Administration (Management) from Penn State University. He is a professor of management at Penn State Behrend, where he is also director of the Behrend Honors Program and campus coordinator for the Schreyer Honors College. 

Mike and his wife, Therese, (head coach of the Cathedral Prep girls’ cross country team, as well as Prep’s indoor and outdoor track & field teams) have six children, including Claire ’16VMA who competed for the University of Richmond, Grace ’18VMA, Andrew ’21, Luke ’23 who is currently competing for George Mason University,  Anne-Catherine ’26, and Michael '28.
